Dr. Peter Alagona, Jr., raised on Long Island, New York received his medical degree from the Chicago Medical School (1976). He completed his three year residency in the Department of Medicine at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center of the Pennsylvania State University and cardiology fellowship at the University of Florida College of Medicine.
Dr. Alagona was a member of a large cardiology group in Tampa for eighteen years during which time he performed invasive-interventional procedures and directed the group’s nuclear laboratory as well as clinical research program. He has acted as a Principal Investigator on numerous clinical trials including lipid-prevention, heart failure and hypertension. In 2002 he became Director of Cardiovascular Research and Education at the North Broward Hospital District in Ft. Lauderdale. Dr. Alagona recently returned to Hershey to become Program Director of General Cardiology at the Penn State Heart and Vascular Institute and Associate Professor of Medicine and Radiology at the Penn State College of Medicine.
Dr. Alagona was President of the Florida Chapter of the American College of Cardiology and recently completed a five year term on the College’s National Board of Trustees. He has served on a number of state and national committees and is current Chairman of the College’s Education Needs Assessment Work Group and a member of the Education Oversight Committee. Dr. Alagona is a Fellow of a number of professional societies including the American College of Cardiology, American College of Physicians and the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions.
In recent years Dr. Alagona has become heavily involved in disease prevention efforts. He is often asked to speak on a variety topics in cardiovascular medicine.
