Carol Mason, ARNP, CLS, FAHA, was elected to serve as the President of the Southeast Lipid Association (SELA) at the group's 11th Annual Scientific Forum held in Hilton Head, South Carolina, August 22-24, 2008. Carol Mason is Clinical Director of the Division of Preventive Cardiology, USF Heart Health Department, at the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa. In addition, she is Co-director of the USF Women's Heart Health Program, a collaborative effort on the part of USF Cardiology and USF Gynecology departments. She also currently serves as VP of the Accreditation Council for Clinical Lipidology. Ms. Mason is a graduate of the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota and a Certified Clinical Lipid Specialist.

As the Clinical Administrator of the St. Paul Heart Clinic Lipid Clinic, Ms Mason served as Clinical Preceptor for nurse practitioner students as well as nurses and physicians interested in initiating lipid clinic programs. Since 1995, she served as principal investigator, sub-investigator, and clinical coordinator of many large-scale, national lipid-management clinical trials.

Ms Mason lectures frequently and serves as a consultant on lipid management, diabetes and dyslipidemia, organizational management of heart disease prevention programs, as well as women's heart health issues. She has authored many articles on lipid management and lipid clinic organization and administration including a chapter in the book; A Guide to Risk Reduction Management as well as a just-completed chapter in a book titled; Reducing Cardiovascular Risk in the Insulin Resistant Patient.

Carol Mason has devoted significant amounts of her time and attention to ensure the success of the National Lipid Association and its Southeast Chapter which she now leads. It is anticipated that SELA will grow and accomplish key projects under her leadership.
